When it comes to burgers in Austin, there are some classic go-tos to satisfy the craving.
Here are my top 5 all-time favorite burger stops that were born and bunned right here in the ATX.
Open since 1939! –Your burger comes with a dose of Austin nostalgia and onion rings as big as your face! My standby is the Ritchie Valens Burger (add bacon of course). On Wednesday nights from 6-10pm, Hut's offers a Hamburger Happy Hour with a two-for-one burger deal.
4. Dart Bowl
Dart bowl has been a home to Austin bowlers for 56 years! More famous for their Dart Bowl Café enchiladas, their burgers are just as amazing. A true southern style burger cooked on a flat grill with a toasted, buttery bun. I make mine a double with lots of jalapenos! You’ll love the old school charm and atmosphere as well.
Since 1987, Crown and Anchor Pub has been a favorite neighborhood spot of the Hyde Park/University Area. They are open 365 days a year, from 11am to 2am! I have been enjoying their classic cheeseburger and fries since the early 90s. I hear they have an award-winning veggie burger as well, though I haven’t personally tried it 😊
My 2nd favorite is a little newer to the Austin scene but unarguably one of the best burgers out there. Their Angus beef is ground fresh daily and the burger options are on point! I like the heat so the regular on my plate is the El Diablo, covered in serrano and habanero peppers, blanketed with melted pepper jack cheese. With a few locations around Austin, you can find one near you wherever you are!
That’s right! My #1 pick for the best Austin burger can be found in the dark corner of a little local bar on dirty 6th. Casino El Camino is the epitome of Austin cool. Opened in 1994, it quickly became a local fav. The burgers have been featured on the Food Network and have won best burger awards locally for several years and voted best jukebox by the Austin Chronicle! Grab a burger, a drink and listen to the tunes on the jukebox. You’ll be glad you did!
